Production Tryouts-What to Do and What Not to Do

Production season is just around the corner and all those tryouts are starting to happen. Here’s a quick list of the Do’s and Don’ts for dance production tryouts:

nn

Do- Practise but don’t go crazy over it. If you over-practise you might end up looking more like a robot than a dancer.

n

Come prepared to learn, take direction, and be ready to apply any critiques from the directors.

nn

Get a good night’s sleep before, so you’re not moving slowly during the tryout.

nn

Wear leggings and socks or tights and your hair up and out of your face!

nn

Stretch and warm up before the tryout (you can even do this at home).

nn

Try to look up, be confident, and smile! Even if you mess up a move or two, if you have a smile on your face and a can-do attitude, you are more likely to be accepted.

nn

Have a good attitude and remember to say thank you to the directors for teaching you the choreography and taking the time to watch your tryout. No matter what dance or part of the production you are placed in, that is where Hashem meant for you to be and that’s the best place for you! So remember to thank Him too!

nn

Don’t forget to practise!

nn

Don’t come late! No one wants to accept a girl who doesn’t even take the tryouts seriously. The directors want girls who are responsible, and respectful and the best way to show them that’s what you are is by showing up ready and on time.

nn

Don’t wear knee socks. Please. Thank you. Tights, yes.

nn

Don’t look down and say “I’m sorry I keep messing up” or “sorry, that was so bad”. You got this! Relax!

nn

If you’re learning the choreography on the spot and finding it difficult, don’t give up! Directors like to accept girls with perseverance!

nn

Don’t leave without saying thank you. The directors took the time to teach you the choreography and watch your tryout. The least you could do is thank them for their efforts and time.

nn

Don’t worry about what you are being placed into! Worry won’t help you and is simply unproductive. Relax and be confident that Hashem is placing you into the very best place in production, special for you.
